About the event

How do we develop as an inclusive, accountable, democratic union?

Since PCU held our founding conference in early 2016, we have grown steadily from c.300 to over 830 members, and been formally established as a listed trade union – but our structures, means of communication and decision-making processes have not changed. As was highlighted by the General Secretary in Motion 13 at the AGM this year, the Constitution, Rules and current structure of the union do not provide adequate ways for members to participate in decision-making and get involved in union activities, thus concentrating power, responsibility and workload between a small number of Executive Committee members. This is both politically undesirable and personally unsustainable for those involved.

It is clear that our current organisational structure has to change: to become less centralised, with greater clarity about decision-making processes and easier ways for members to get involved and have their say.

With input from Doug Nichols, General Secretary of the General Federation Of Trade Unions, we will be discussing what kind of union we want to be, and consulting on proposals about the future structure of the union (which will be put to a vote of all members before ratification).

We urge all members to participate and contribute to this important event - The Zoom link will be emailed to those who signed for the event close before the event date.
